Tooth and Claw

Apologetically Apocalypse

slightly smooshy

Nahuel knocked on the door, nervously fidgeting with the flowers in his hand. It had been a while since he had seen Emma and he wasn’t sure how she would react. He’d met her when they had returned from exile, and despite her short joy, she still needed time.

This time Nahuel wanted to put things right. His encounter with Wending had just solidified his suspicions that the Apocalypse was probably happening. He wanted to make sure Emma knew how he felt and he hoped for forgiveness.

The seconds seemed to be dragging as he heard Emma moving inside. He smelled her perfume as she reached the door and shortly after he heard the latch taken off the lock and the handle pushed down. When she opened the door she looked tired, as if she had spent the whole day reading. Nahuel smiled at her and leapt straight in as she opened her mouth in surprise.

“Listen. Before you say anything, I know you may need more time. But I’ve been through so much these last few weeks that I want you to know how I feel.”

A faint resigned smile cracked on her face and she gestured into the hallway. “Come in. This isn’t a romcom where you make your declaration for me on the doorstep.”

Nahuel walked in and gave her the flowers. They were small wildflowers, handpicked by him when he went to check up on his mother and her pack from the few that had begun to grow even in the winter snows. She accepted them with another smile and grabbed a vase.
“There are rumours of an ‘Apocalypse’ happening. Some of the other kinfolk call it the End. I don’t know what it’s about, but everyone seems pretty serious about it…” she said.

Nahuel nodded. “That’s what all the other Garou say too. There are prophecies and stuff. Julia being crowned queen just solidifies it more.”

She smiled faintly. “I heard. Does that mean you are a knight?”

Nahuel chuckled. “More like a court jester.”

She shook her head in amusement and set the vase down. “If you say so.”

He took a deep breath. “So, I don’t know how you feel, but I have to tell you. I love you. I care for you. I know I fucked up and I know you heard these words before but I won’t anymore. I will be much more considerate….”

Emma smiled, raising a hand to shush him. “Slow down. I guess I can’t really stay angry out you with an apocalypse looming, can I? It seems a bit pointless. I just…”

“You can take all the time you want, but just know that this is how I feel for you and that it won’t change. You are part of the reason I fight. You are the reason I go through wounds and hardship. I want to protect you and make sure you are safe-” Nahuel continued, trying to plough on with his speech. He’d out a lot of thought into it and now he was almost running on autopilot.

“Nahuel. I said it’s okay.”

He stopped mid-speech. “It is?”

“I get it. You were thinking with your dick, you didn’t know she was pregnant and that she would show up suddenly. You tried to be honest with me about it, you didn’t try to hide her once you knew. I’ve been mad, but I really can’t stay hanging over that now – it seems increasingly pointless if this really is the ‘end times’. But be assured that I will use this as an excuse to get ice-cream whenever I want.”

He scooped her into his arms and kissed her passionately. She responded enthusiastically as she held on to him. He pulled away slowly. “I am… so glad.”

She smiled. “I thought you would be. I know a way to make you gladder.”

She grinned as she removed her top. Nahuel grinned as well and began kissing her neck as they both removed their clothing in haste.
“Do you think you will win?”

Nahuel was spooning Emma in bed when she asked the question.

“Win what?”

“The Apocalypse. Do you think you will win and stop it?”

He sighed. “I’m not so sure. I’ve seen what we are capable of when we are united, but this is supposed to be the end all event. There are forces here that are beyond our understanding, so much bigger than us. I don’t know if it’s something you really win.”

“Do you think you will survive it then?”

“I am nothing if not a survivor.”

She chuckled at that and turned over to face him. Her skin felt so good against his. “You better survive it, Nahuel Stormbringer. I can’t commit to someone who constantly goes on suicide missions.”
He chuckled “Have we met?”
She smiled and kissed him. “If nothing else, survive for me. Promise?”
He smiled, nodded without answering and kissed her back.
If nothing else, I’ll die for you to survive.
